I was born and raised in South Africa, emigrated to the Yarra Valley, Victoria in 2001 and loving it. Being raised on a farm in Kwa-zulu Natal, I became acutely aware of the
value of simple things in life as seen through the eyes of the unassuming people that worked the land. I often reflect in my choice of subject matter the harsh colours of Africa, rough textures, the freedom to enjoy simple things that we all value, yet sometimes dismiss as insignificant. A gift, a smile, companionship, home.
My current collection is naive, moving freely between reality and fantasy, paying no attention to confines of true form, colour or perspective. I enjoy the innocence and exagerated result. I am a student of African artist Frans Claerhout, who influenced the way I express myself.
