Willandra is now a National Park but once was a successful sheep station in western NSW, 60 km from Hillston. The feeling you get is one of freedom and space. As you drive through the park little heads pop up out of the grass to watch you - either roos or in this case, emus. This was the last painting I did while we were there - I wanted to convey that feeling of distance and have the challenge of making a painting of the flat country. it was quite late in the afternoon and I sat on the tail gate of the ute which gave me just enough height!

The painting is on a Saunders Watercolour pad of rag paper, 300gsm, cold pressed. The paints were Artists' quality Winsor and Newton and Art Spectrum brand.
