This painting was inspired by my recent trip to Coober Pedy. I was amazed to see knotted, sturdy trees standing strong in such a dry, hot area. They looked beautiful against the many colours of the dirt and salt bushes. One in particular looked like it supported the weight of the sky upon its branches, and this I sketched as we drove by, and upon coming home, transformed into this painting of Atlas, depicted as an strong, old tree.

The painting is oil on gallery wrap canvas. 90cm x 60cm.
